I’m pleased, of course, but I didn’t expect it – especially after two volumes. ![]() There are even a couple of scenes of Souma thinking to himself that he wants to do whatever Ryo would enjoy, which are nice to have.Ĭonsidering where we were at the start of the series and how smutty it is even now, I’m honestly surprised that I’m sitting here talking about how Ryo and Souma have become much more human characters. So far Ryo has simply gone along with Souma, but now she’s beginning to express some of her own desires. Honesty is an important part of any relationship and it’s nice to see that being depicted, even going so far as the bedroom scenes. Given Volume 2 stretched out the melodrama of Volume 1, I’m happy to see author Kawano Tanishi change the dynamic this time around because it makes the cast much more interesting. Instead of letting misunderstandings fester or leaving things unsaid, they take the time to sit and talk about their problems or fears. ![]() Here in Volume 3, Ryo and Souma are being a lot more mature about their relationship. It’s not all that dissimilar to the previous two volumes on the whole, but there is one big difference this time around. When Souma does finally return, Ryo opens up to him about her concerns and they manage to have an adult conversation about it.Įlsewhere in this volume, we see Ryo getting jealous about Souma attending a mixer with his workmates and the two enjoying their first proper date together since becoming an official couple. When he doesn’t get in touch with her, Ryo starts to worry about him and realises how difficult it is to date someone who works such a dangerous job. ![]() Just before the two can dig into the birthday cake Souma bought for Ryo, he finds himself called out on an emergency dispatch. Now Ryo’s birthday is approaching and she’s looking forward to celebrating it with Souma, but she quickly discovers that dating a fireman can prove unpredictable. They’re finally leaving their loosely defined relationship behind and are instead willing to be committed to one another as boyfriend and girlfriend. We’ve gone almost a year and a half without a new volume of Fire in His Fingertips, but finally, Volume 3 has reached the West and we can continue following the blossoming romance between Ryo and her fireman boyfriend Souma.Īs we reunite with our cast, we find them in bed, having just confessed their love for one another.
